Beauty: Mac Lovelorn & Vegas Volt lipsticks

Hi my lovelies, I seem to have forgotten about blogging for, well, over a year. Which is horrible. I have gotten my inspiration back and will try to continue to keep it up.

I thought I would start my first post back with a review of my Mac lipsticks. I have Vegas volt- a bright coral  orange-y colour and Love lorn- a sweet and simple pink. I love them both to bits and think they suit me very much, although recently I dyed my hair a redish colour and it sort of clashes with these colours.

No lippy

Sorry about the awkward angles, I was home alone and had to take the photo myself. Also, not wearing any foundation so of course these lippys would look much better on a completed face of makeup rather than on their own (whoops!)

Review: Revlon Gum Drop Nail Polish

I am the biggest nail polish junkie, i have so many bottles its unbelievable. My absolute favourite is Revlon's Gum Drop. I love the lavender colour, its gorgeous, really cute and a great pastel colour for any season. The best thing about it is that it is scented. When i bought it i didn't expect such a nice smell, i thought it would just smell like all the other nail polishes! I'm not good with describing fragrances but it smelt like a sweet vanilla. The only complaint i have is that it takes quite a few coats to make it opaque which kind of sucks but the smell and colour makes up for it! I got so many compliments on this nail polish from my friends and family so it wasn't just me who liked the colour. Some even noticed the scent just from being near me! I would recommend it to anyone and everyone. Its a suitable colour for any age and looks pretty on any skin colour!

Beauty trend: coloured mascara

Coloured mascara is so pretty and fantastic for summer. When choosing a colour, you should make sure it complements your eye colour and skin tone.

If you have blue eyes, blue mascara would be perfect for you. If you have green eyes go for emeralds, violets and redish- browns. If you have brown eyes, your best option is purple as gives your eyes more of a golden glow.

Tips for matching your mascara with your skin tone:
Every skin tone can wear pink mascara
• If you have very light skin, avoid dark shades

What is your skin type?

Knowing your skin type is extremely important as you need to make sure you are using the correct products on your face. If you don't use the right products it may affect your problem areas.

There are 5 basic skin types:
Normal skin- Consider yourself extremely lucky if you have normal skin. You hardly have a care in the world and your skin is vibrant and gorgeous. Doesn't mean you shouldn't still take good care of it though, your skin routine is just simpler.
How can you tell if you have normal skin?
• Neither oily nor dry
• Blemish-free
• Fresh, healthy appearance
• Smooth texture
• No visible pores

Dry skin- Dry skin needs a bit of extra care which can be a drag but a good skin routine does the trick. If you have dry skin try not to wash it with tap water. Instead, use cold mineral water or clean your face with an alcohol-free cleaning lotion.
How can you tell if you have dry skin?
• Skin feels rough and slightly flaky
• Small pores and skin is quite matte looking
• Skin is easily burned
• Feels tight after being wiped

Oily skin- Oily skin has overactive oil glands. It is important to keep oily skin in balance as drying it out too much can actually worsen its condition.
How can you tell if you have oily skin?
Skin has shiny appearance
• Makeup comes off quite easily
• Enlarged pores
• Skin may be coarse and thicker in texture
• Blackheads, whiteheads and acne are common

Sensitive skin- Sensitive skin is the most problematic and fragile type of skin which needs very special care.
How do you know if you have sensitive skin?
• Usually very dry
• Tends to feel tight
• Becomes inflamed or irritated easily
• Can be itchy or tingly

Combination skin- Combination skin is a very common type. The pattern of oily and dry areas can change from time to time so your skincare routine needs to be adjusted accordingly.
How can you tell if you have combination skin?
• An oily T-zone but dry cheeks
• Visible blemishes on the T-zone
• Fine lines and wrinkles around the eyes
• Slight flakiness and redness on the cheek area
• Complexion can seem dull and lifeless

How to match your eyeshadow with your eye colour

Blue eyes:
If you have blue eyes, you should stick to earthy colours, such as browns, taupes, and greys. Do not wear blue eyeshadow.
Avoid: Blue, of course

Green eyes:
Purple goes great with green eyes, and even hazel eyes! If you want a more natural colour, go for a warm mocha brown or bronze.
Avoid: Greens and blues.

Brown eyes:
You are pretty lucky if you have brown eyes as I've noticed that you can pretty much wear any colour since brown is a neutral colour. If you want your eyes to stand out then go for green, metallics, gold and bronze.
Avoid: Silver, light blue shades and yellow.

Hazel eyes:
To make yours eyes pop go for golds, yellows, greens and basically anything that matches your flecks.
Avoid: Blue tones

L'Afrique, c'est chic.
